Fixture release: Key dates in 2022/23

AFC Bournemouth will face champions Manchester City and runners-up Liverpool in the first month of the new Premier League season.

The Cherries visit the Etihad Stadium in their first away game on Saturday 13^th August before heading to Anfield a fortnight later on 27th August.

A tough series of opening fixtures sees Scott Parker’s team host Arsenal, who finished fifth last season, at Vitality Stadium on Saturday 20^th August.

THE START

The Cherries will kick off their Premier League campaign against Aston Villa – their opponents in their first top-flight encounter in 2015.

On a baking hot day at Vitality Stadium almost seven years ago, Rudy Gestede spoiled the party when he scored the only goal in the second half.

However, Eddie Howe’s team went on to upset the odds by finishing 16^th in their first season in the Premier League with Villa going down with Norwich and Newcastle.

REUNION

The Cherries will face former boss Eddie Howe and a host of ex-players and staff when they meet Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday 17^th September.

Howe led the Cherries during five seasons in the Premier League and his current backroom staff includes Jason Tindall, Stephen Purches, Graeme Jones, Simon Weatherstone and Dan Hodges.

Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Matt Ritchie, who served the Cherries during their previous spell in the top flight, are all members of the Newcastle squad.

The Cherries won their first two games in the Premier League at St James’ Park, the second victory coming thanks to a dramatic headed goal from Steve Cook in the last minute in November 2017.

FESTIVE PERIOD

Supporters will be hoping for more of the same when the Cherries meet Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

The season resumes on 26^th December following a six-week break for the finals of the World Cup in Qatar between 21^st November and 18^th December.

And the Cherries will head to Stamford Bridge, a venue where they recorded wins in 2015/16, 2017/18 and 2019/20. The clip above shows Glenn Murray's goal against Chelsea in 2015/16.

Five days later, Parker’s team will see out 2022 when they host Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve before opening 2023 with a trip to Manchester United on Monday 2nd January.

LOCAL RIVALS

Both games against south coast neighbours Southampton will take place during midweek, with the Cherries hosting the Saints on Tuesday 18^th October.

The return fixture at St Mary’s Stadium, where the Cherries recorded a memorable 3-1 win in September 2019, takes place on Wednesday 26^th April.

EASTER

Head coach Parker will face former club Fulham at Vitality Stadium on Saturday 1^st April before taking his squad to Leicester a week later on Easter Saturday.

The Foxes were crowned Premier League champions in 2015/16 with a goal from Marc Pugh earning the Cherries victory against them the following season at Vitality Stadium.

THE RUN-IN

The Cherries face two former Premier League champions in their final four games, Parker’s team hosting Chelsea and Manchester United.

A trip to Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park on Saturday 13^th May is sandwiched between Chelsea and United visiting Vitality Stadium in the last month of the season.

And on the final day of the campaign – Sunday 28^th May – the Cherries will bring down the curtain on the season with a trip to Everton.

Meanwhile, the draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup will take place on 23rd June with the Cherries entering the competition in the second round.
