Five point preview: Yeovil Town

Yeovil celebrate a goal last season.

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth head to Huish Park for their final pre-season encounter on the road, before the new Premier League season gets underway next weekend.

Smith fit for the Cherries

Adam Smith came through Saturday’s friendly with Valencia unscathed after a quad injury had kept him bound to the sidelines. The right-back played over an hour against Los Che to record his first minutes of the pre-season programme and looks to be hitting fitness in time for the season opener.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, Smith told afcb.co.uk: “The doctors have checked me and everything’s fine so it’s good to come out injury free and now I’ve just got to work hard for the start of the season.”

Cherries duo return to Huish Park

Matt Butcher and Ben Whitfield spent time on loan with the Glovers last season and made a string of appearances for the League Two side. The pair both turned out on 42 occasions for Darren Way’s side and ended the campaign with five goals between them.

The midfield duo could well feature for the Cherries at Huish Park on Wednesday night, with both involved in Saturday’s squad at Queens Park Rangers and Whitfield coming off the bench in Sunday’s friendly with Valencia.

Recent clashes

As the Cherries progressed through the Football League, Yeovil were one side frequently encountered with clashes in League One, the Championship and the Johnstones Paint Trophy. With 10 meetings in the last eight years, it would seem reasonable to say that the two sides know each other well, but how have Eddie Howe’s side fared against the Glovers in recent years?

The last time Yeovil came away victorious in a competitive fixture was back in 2007, with the Cherries winning eight of the 11 ties since. Nevertheless, the sides played out a 1-1 draw in 2014 in what was the most recent meeting between the pair. Ryan Fraser’s second half strike secured a point at Huish Park.

Yeovil’s pre-season

The Cherries will be Yeovil’s final test ahead of their season opener at Luton on Saturday. Darren Way’s side have won four of their six pre-season games, only losing out to Championship side Bristol City and League One’s Bristol Rovers.

However, the Glovers certainly pose an attacking threat, having netted in all of their pre-season friendlies to date. Saturday’s clash against Devon side Tiverton Town saw Yeovil hit four at Ladysmead, with new signing Connor Smith bagging a brace.

Pay on the day available

The Vitality Stadium ticket office has sold their initial allocation of 800 tickets for the fixture at Huish Park but fans are now able to pay on the day.

An extra 1,200 tickets have been made available to Cherries fans wishing to travel to the game and they can be picked up on the gate.

However, supporters can ring the Yeovil Town ticket office on 01935 847888 ahead of kick-off to secure their seat.
