Five point preview: Queens Park Rangers

Matt Smith celebrates with his QPR team-mates after netting the Hoops' goal against Union Berlin.

AFC Bournemouth make the trip up to London to face QPR, looking to make it three wins from three in pre-season.

The match on Saturday is a benefit match for QPR legend, Stan Bowles.

The former England player made 315 league appearances for the club between 1972 and 1979 and remains highly regarded by the Rangers faithful.

In 2015 it was revealed that Bowles is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and the match will raise funds the QPR No.10 Foundation – a charitable fund managed by QPR in the Community Trust to assist ex-players, staff and their dependants.

Adam Smith signs

Cherries full-back Adam Smith signed a new four-year deal this week, keeping him on the south coast until 2021.

However, he picked up a quad injury in the club's pre-season training camp in Marbella and is unlikely to feature at Loftus Road.

Following last weekend's Portsmouth win, manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Smith has had treatment and should be available for the opening Premier League game at West Brom.

QPR’s pre-season so far

The Hoops have played two games so far in pre-season, and have lost out in both.

The first came at the hands of Lokomotive Leipzig who beat a youthful R’s side 3-2 out in Germany.

The second game from QPR's German trip saw a tight 2-1 loss to Union Berlin on Monday - the original game having been abandoned after 13 minutes on Saturday following a heavy downpour.

One to Watch – Alex Smithies

The 27-year-old R’s goalie Alex Smithies walked away with all three player of the year awards last season and is reportedly attracting interest from rival clubs.

Smithies is building a reputation for saving penalties with the West London club, who he joined from Huddersfield Town in 2015.

Recent Clashes

In total the two clubs have faced each other 74 times, with Rangers coming out on top 33 times to the Cherries 27, leaving a total of 14 draws.

Matches have tended to be tight in recent times, with the last meeting in 2014 ending in a 2-1 Championship win for Bournemouth; goals from Tommy Elphick and Lewis Grabban securing the win at Vitality Stadium.
