Fantasy Premier League: Prices confirmed for 2017/18

Written by Zoe Rundle

The Premier League has today launched its Fantasy Football game for the upcoming season.

Players have up to £100 million to spend on a team of 15, which comprises of two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three strikers.

New for this year, the game has introduced a 'Free Hit' option which will replace 'All Out Attack' and allow a player to make unlimited transfers for one week before the squad returns to its initial line-up for the next set of fixtures.

But how have the Cherries players fared now that the stats have been released?

Joshua King, who was selected by 19.3% of users last season, has not only seen his price increase from £6.2 million to £7.5 million, but also his position change from a midfielder to a striker. The Norwegian's 16 Premier League goals last season undoubtedly explain the changes, with his price sure to increase throughout the campaign should he emulate the 178 points accumulated in 2016/17.

However, users should not forget about Callum Wilson upon his return from injury. The striker, alongside fellow forward Benik Afobe, will cost just £6 million as he bids to exceed the 64 points achieved last year.

Up the other end of the pitch, defender Charlie Daniels is priced at a reasonable £5 million, alongside Steve Cook, Adam Smith and Nathan Ake. The left-back was selected by 9.9% of users last term and netted four goals throughout the campaign, making him the fifth highest scoring defender in the league. With three assists also to his name, it's unsurprising that Daniels managed 134 points and, costing £0.2 million less than last year, he looks to be a great addition to any team.

In midfield, Junior Stanislas is the most expensive Cherries player, costing £6 million. Despite being selected by just 1.3% of players last season, the winger hit top form towards the end of the campaign, scoring three goals in the final three games, and could well start 2017/18 as he left off.

However, with new faces added to Eddie Howe's squad, there's plenty of choices to be made. Let's see how some of our new boys fare in this season's Fantasy Premier League.

Jermain Defoe is the highest priced Cherries man and will cost £8 million to feature in your squad. The England international's fifteen goals and two assists last season saw him selected by 16.1% of users and finish on 166 points, therefore explaining why his price has risen by £0.8 million.

Between the sticks, Asmir Begovic comes in at just £4.5 million, alongside fellow Cherries shot-stopper Artur Boruc. With Thibaut Courtois having occupied the number one shirt at Chelsea, the Bosnian only managed two points last year but will be looking to make amends as the 2017/18 season gets underway.
