Jermain Defoe has been named in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia.
The striker will link up with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions following this weekend’s fixture against Manchester City.
The game against Malta will take place on Friday 1st September at Ta' Qali National Stadium, before the squad return home for the match against Slovakia on Monday 4th September.
The call up comes after Defoe made a return to international football in March, scoring in a 2-0 win over Lithuania and later playing his part in June’s 2-2 draw with Scotland.
