Eddie Howe - Passing the 40 point mark is massive for this football club

Written by Matt Joyce

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has hailed the achievement of surpassing the 40 point mark as 'massive for the football club'.

The Cherries now sit on 41 points in the Premier League table thanks to a late Joshua King winner against Sunderland.

Howe was sympathetic as the result relegated the Black Cats but was pleased with his side's achievement.

"We're now at that all important mark and everyone is delighted," he explained.

"We're not so pleased with the performance but to get over the 40 point mark is massive for this football club.

"I do have sympathy for Sunderland and the position they're in, they gave everything to win and that probably allowed for us to catch them on the break.

"I do think our achievement is excellent considering the size of the clubs we're competing against and how competitive the league is, as we saw today.

"It's an unforgiving league but we have three games to go and more work to do."

The result also sees Howe's side climb into the top half of the Premier League, but is keen to see his team use the last three games to cement a top ten berth.

"There's very little between teams in the league," he continued.

"We nicked a big win and I think the target has to be to finish as high as possible. Of course we're not mathematically safe yet but we're going to enjoy our last three games and look to get as high up the table as possible."
