AFC Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe has spoken following his side’s 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 33-year-old scored the winner, after the Cherries found themselves 1-0 down early in the second half.

An Andrew Surman goal started the comeback, before Defoe was on hand to secure the three points.

“I don’t think I can find words to describe how it felt to score the goal,” he claimed.

“It was special and I had that buzz when we scored because I wasn’t just delighted for me but also the team.

“To score a winner in such an important game that we had to win felt amazing and fair play for the lads for coming back from being one down.

“But I feel like we’ve still got more to give and I’m sure the manager will say the same because each week we’re improving.

“I felt like we controlled the game tonight, we created chances and had good energy levels. The character of the players was excellent tonight and the attitude was equal to that.

“Although, we don’t want to take our foot off the gas. We have to regroup and focus on the next game.”

The England international was also quick to praise individuals in the squad and how they contributed to the Cherries’ first win of the campaign.

“Andrew Surman’s finish was brilliant tonight and I felt like Jordon [Ibe] came on and changed the game.

“He had a massive impact and you need that. It’s not just about the players starting because it’s not easy to come off the bench and perform.

“For the goal, I made eye-contact with him and he rolled it down the side so all I had to do was turn and finish it. He was unbelievable.”
