Jermain Defoe has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for his services to charity.

The award recognises the work of the Jermain Defoe Foundation, which was set up in 2013.

The Foundation looks to support vulnerable children in the Caribbean, with the 35-year-old recently holding an annual football tournament to raise money for the Holy Family Children's Home in St. Lucia.

Defoe also established a strong friendship with Bradley Lowery, who suffered from rare childhood cancer Neuroblastoma and tragically passed away last year.

The striker led the youngster, who was an avid Sunderland fan, out onto the field at the Stadium of Light, before he was also a mascot at Wembley for England's fixture with Lithuania in March 2017.

Upon receiving the accolade, Defoe dedicated the award to both Bradley and those at the Jermain Defoe Foundation.
