Danjuma delights in win over Canaries

Arnaut Danjuma's stunning first-half strike was the difference as AFC Bournemouth beat Norwich City 1-0 in a high-octane match at Vitality Stadium.

Danjuma powered home a first-half laser from outside the box after an equally as accomplished turn to evade the attentions of his defender, the hosts a goal to the good at the break.

The second half remained open with both teams lively throughout and looking to attack, but the Cherries defence remained resolute to the final whistle, retaining their unbeaten start in the Championship as they moved onto seven points after three games.

Diego Rico came in to start on the left side of the back three, his first league start of the season, while Lloyd Kelly missed out after suffering a midweek hamstring injury and David Brooks was absent through illness. There was a place on the bench for Joshua King, his first squad inclusion of the campaign.

Kicking-off in the autumnal sunshine but with a swirling breeze to contend with, the Cherries set about in an intense manner from the off, pressing high up the pitch.

A looping Jack Stacey cross was reached by Tim Krul moments before Philip Billing could get there, the Canaries 'keeper busy again as he grabbed a powerful Jefferson Lerma centre at the second attempt.

Teemu Pukki slid through for Lukas Rupp as the away side introduced their attacking abilities to the hosts, though Steve Cook was on hand to concede a corner that was soon cleared.

The game's first big chance arrived when Lerma fed inside for Dominic Solanke, the striker manufacturing space and firing from 12 yards, though Krul extended to his right to save well, with Adam Smith unable to direct the aerial rebound home.

Onel Hernandez checked Asmir Begovic's reaction times as he struck from the edge of the box, the Bosnian parrying behind before punching away the corner that followed.

Lerma scuffed at a 22-yard shot, the open nature of the game continuing to make for an entertaining spectacle. Arnaut Danjuma alive to the press soon and delivering an accurate centre that Solanke reached but saw deflect behind off a defender.

Krul was busy again after build-up play from Danjuma and Billing resulted in a headed chance for Jack Stacey. The angle was unfavourable for the Cherries full-back but his powered effort would have opened the scoring but for the Dutch 'keeper's impressive intervention.

Danjuma had been the busiest player on the pitch and after 35 minutes he was the one to find the net, scoring for the second home league game in succession.

Lerma fizzed a low ball into the Netherlands international and he made room for himself with a delicious first-time turn, his next task was to shoot from 25 yards and his low drive had both the power and direction to beat the 'keeper.

The Canaries came close to levelling matters when Pukki teed up Rupp on the edge of the area, the midfielder's shot strong but repelled by Begovic as the sides returned to the dressing rooms with Bournemouth retaining their one-goal advantage.

There were no personnel changes at the break and there was a consistency on the pitch as well as Danjuma remained centre stage first with a sliced volley from a delightful Solanke loft that and then a low strike that Krul gathered.

The sides traded shots as Solanke's 25-yarder was too central, Begovic palming Xavi Quintilla's effort up and then catching as it came back down, both side's looking well-capable of scoring in the early stages of the second half.

Solanke linked up with Danjuma again but the former could only head over from a promising position.

The visitors were increasingly enjoying more territory, Max Aarons embarking on a dangerous run that culminated in a shot some yards over the crossbar.

On 66 minutes King was introduced for his first minutes of the season, replacing Solanke in attack.

Danjuma's work down the left flank would have left King with a golden opportunity but for Krul's reading of the situation as he sprung from his goal line, the Cherries defence also required to stand up to repeated Norwich attacks, the match still firmly in the balance with ten minutes left.

The seconds counting down, Quintilla raced through, looking likely to get away a shot until Steve Cook's brilliant tackle, each defensive showing summoning large roars from the Cherries contingent along the sideline at an otherwise empty Vitality Stadium.

The loudest roar of all followed as referee James Linington blew his final whistle, Bournemouth seeing out their win and continuing their strong start to the Championship season.
