Daniels signs new three-year deal

AFC Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels has signed a new three-year contract.

The 31-year-old, who has been a regular on the left-hand side of the Cherries rearguard over the past six years, will remain at Vitality Stadium until at least the summer of 2020.

Daniels began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, rising through the ranks while enjoying loan spells at Chesterfield, Gillingham and Leyton Orient.

He joined the O’s on a permanent basis in January 2009 and after close to three successful years at Brisbane Road, Daniels switched to AFC Bournemouth, initially on loan before making the move full-time.

The full-back played a key role in the club’s rapid rise through League One and the Championship, before helping establish the Cherries in the Premier League.

To date, Daniels has made 205 appearances for AFC Bournemouth, scoring 16 goals, including a goal of the season contender against Manchester City last month.

“It’s all happened quite quickly but I’m really happy that the club have given me the opportunity to stay here for another three years,” said Daniels.

“I’ve been at the club for six years now, so staying here was a simple decision. I couldn’t wait to sign the new contract and can’t wait to see what the next few years has to hold.

“This is a great club and it’s a brilliant time to be a part of it.”

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake added: “Charlie has proved himself at every level since arriving here and has made each step up in division look simple.

“He is a model of consistency, an outstanding professional and, in my opinion, one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

“As well as signing new players during the summer, it was important to keep hold of those we already had, and I’m delighted that Charlie has agreed to remain here for the next three years and continue this fantastic journey that both he and the club have been on.”
