AFC Bournemouth will start their pre-season programme with a friendly away at Benfica on Sunday.

The match will start at 7pm local time (also 7pm GMT) on Sunday 30th August, with the game taking place at Benfica's Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, the stadium that hosted Sunday's UEFA Champions League final.

The friendly gives manager Jason Tindall the first chance to see his squad in competitive action this pre-season ahead of the Championship start on 12th September, when the Cherries host Blackburn Rovers.

Managed by the returning Jorge Jesus, Benfica last season finished the Primeira Liga season in second position, having been crowned champions in 2019.

The fixture will be played behind closed doors, with no tickets to be made available for supporters.

The club are exploring the opportunity to stream the match to supporters and will confirm details of this possibility in due course.
