Rising star David Brooks has scooped the club’s Michael Matthews Player of the Month award for December.

The Wales international netted two goals and provided one assist as he picked up his second monthly award since joining the club in the summer.

Brooks continued his impressed start to his career at Vitality Stadium by scoring twice to fire the Cherries to a crucial 2-0 win over Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

It took to five his goal tally for the season, having also been on target in victories over Crystal Palace, Watford and Fulham.

The 21-year-old, signed from Sheffield United, featured in seven of the Cherries’ eight games in December and supplied the assist for Nathan Ake’s consolation in the defeat at Manchester United.

In what was a challenging month for Eddie Howe’s squad, Brooks came off the bench in the defeat at former club Manchester City before starting the top-flight clashes against Huddersfield, Liverpool, Brighton, Tottenham and Manchester United. He also started against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Brooks was a convincing winner of the award, claiming 79 per cent of the supporter vote to win. Jefferson Lerma, the November award winner, was runner-up.

Representatives from Michael Matthews will be on hand to present Brooks with his award ahead of a forthcoming home fixture.
