AFC Bournemouth playmaker David Brooks has signed a long-term contract extension, keeping him at Vitality Stadium at least until June 2026.

Brooks is the latest member of Scott Parker’s squad to agree new terms, following teammates Mark Travers, Dom Solanke, Lewis Cook and Adam Smith.

The 25-year-old has committed his future to the club after returning to training in the summer having successfully completed his treatment for cancer.

Wales international Brooks was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma in October 2021 and received the all-clear at the end of last season.

Since joining the Cherries from Sheffield United in July 2018, Brooks has netted 17 goals in 90 games in all competitions, including scoring eight times in 39 appearances in the Premier League.

Brooks made an eye-catching start to his Cherries career, netting seven times in 30 games in his first season in the Premier League.

And he capped a memorable 2018/19 campaign by scoring his first senior goal for his country and being named Wales’s player of the year and young player of the year.

Although an ankle injury checked his progress in 2019/20, Brooks helped the Cherries reach the Championship play-offs in 2020/21 and featured for Wales at the Euros.

AFC Bournemouth Chief Executive Neill Blake told the club website: "We are all aware of what David has been through over the last year so to have reached this moment is very pleasing for us.

"He still has a huge role to play for the club so we’re delighted he has become the latest key player to commit their future to us.

"He has made incredible progress in his recovery alongside our backroom team and, whenever the time comes, it will give everyone at the club great pride to see him back on the pitch in an AFC Bournemouth shirt."

Since taking his first steps on the road to recovery, Brooks has been working to a modified programme but his return to full training is imminent.

Brooks told the club website: “I am so pleased to have signed this deal and am looking forward to the next few years with this great club.

"Of course, the last year has been extremely difficult for myself, my family and friends but I’m now in a position to resume my career, and getting this deal over the line is the icing on the cake.

"I am working hard alongside the excellent coaching team at AFC Bournemouth and am hoping to be back on the pitch soon.

"In the meantime, I’ll be supporting the lads every step of the way.”
