Brooks joins Southampton on loan

We can confirm David Brooks has joined Sky Bet Championship side Southampton on loan.

The 26-year-old will link up with Russell Martin's team for the remainder of the season, with the promotion chasers currently occupying third place in the league.

With no option or obligation for a permanent transfer at the end of his spell at St. Mary's Stadium, Brooks will return to AFC Bournemouth ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Having made 13 Premier League appearances for the Cherries this term, scoring in the 2-2 draw at Brentford in August, the Welsh international has also captained Andoni Iraola's side in domestic cup competitions. His final game in red and black this season came last Thursday, as he scored one and assisted another two in the 5-0 win over Swansea City in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk, chief executive Neill Blake said: "Having discussed David's situation with him this month, and taking into account his desire to be playing more minutes of first-team football, we have accepted his request to authorise such a move.

"There has been a certain level of reluctance on our part, as David means a great deal to us all at the club. It is because of this that we respect his wishes, and look forward to his return where he will continue to be a valuable asset to our squad, hopefully for many years to come."
