Billing features in Denmark victory

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing came off the bench in Denmark’s 2-0 victory over Austria last night.

Welcoming Ralf Rangnick’s side to Parken Stadium was the Danes’ fourth UEFA Nations League game and it saw them remain top in group 1 of league A.

Over an 11-day period, Denmark have now accrued nine points in their group of Austria, France and Croatia, with the latter in second place trailing by two points.

Goals from Jonas Wind and Andreas Skov Olsen were the difference against Austria last night, with the goals coming in the first half.

Both were well-worked moves as Wind opened the scoring before later providing the assist for Skov Olsen’s strike.

Billing was then introduced to the action at half-time as the Cherries’ middleman replaced the second Danish scorer.

The substitute appearance was the midfielder’s third cap for his nation, having last made an appearance for Denmark at the end of March.

Elsewhere, James Hill was the only other Bournemouth player who could have been in international action, however, he did not feature in England U21s’ matchday squad.

The young Three Lions fell to their first defeat in UEFA European U21 Championship qualification, losing out 2-1 to Slovenia.

Despite the defeat, Lee Carsley’s side remains top of group G with a three-point advantage over second-placed Czech Republic.
