Billing completes Cherries move

AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Danish central midfielder Philip Billing.

The 23-year-old arrives from SkyBet Championship side Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee and has put pen to paper on a long-term contract.

Billing becomes the Cherries’ third new arrival of the summer, following defenders Lloyd Kelly and Jack Stacey through the door at Vitality Stadium.

After joining Huddersfield’s youth set-up in 2013, Billing quickly rose through the ranks at the West Yorkshire-based club, making his first team debut in April 2014.

He made 91 appearances in all competitions for the Terriers, scoring six goals, and picked up the club’s Players’ Player of the Year and Players’ Young Player of the Year awards last season.

“I’m delighted to become an AFC Bournemouth player,” said Billing.

“As soon as I heard of the club’s interest, there was never any doubt in my mind.

“It was an easy decision to make to come into a squad which is full of talented, international players and working with a manager of Eddie Howe’s quality.

“This is an exciting step forward for me and I can’t wait to get started.”

AFC Bournemouth chief executive, Neill Blake, said: “Philip may be young but already has a wealth of first team experience, including two seasons in the Premier League.

“He is incredibly talented, has already proved himself at the highest level and has much more to come.

“Philip will add competition and further quality to our central midfield positions and this is another exciting addition to our squad.”
