Krystian Bielik bagged the only goal as Wayne Rooney celebrated his first win as permanent manager of Derby County.

Rooney, appointed at the end of last week following a spell in interim charge, saw Bielik settled the contest in favour of the host in the 32nd minute.

The Poland international reacted quickest and stabbed home a Graeme Shinnie corner to condemn the Cherries to a second successive 1-0 reverse.

Although Jason Tindall’s team found chances hard to come by at Pride Park, Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos made a fine save to prevent Lloyd Kelly levelling in the second half.

Arnaut Danjuma made a welcome return to the Cherries starting line-up as boss Jason Tindall made two changes following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Luton Town.

Danjuma, who had missed the past 12 matches due to a hamstring injury, replaced Joshua King in attack, while Lloyd Kelly came in for Diego Rico.

Jefferson Lerma kept his place in the heart of the Cherries midfield after his red card against the Hatters was rescinded following an appeal.

New signing Jack Wilshere was named among the Cherries substitutes having completed his permanent move on the eve of the contest.

Danjuma fastened on to Cameron Carter-Vickers’s raking pass and saw his resultant effort blocked by Nathan Byrne inside the opening 20 seconds.

And the Rams also carved out a presentable early chance when Kamil Jozwiak saw his header from a Bielik cross turned past the post by Asmir Begovic.

Dominic Solanke diverted the ball wide of the target from close range after Jack Stacey had picked him out with a driven, low cross from the right.

Lerma and Bielik both required treatment following a clash of heads, the Derby man coming off worse and having to leave the pitch to change his bloodied shirt.

Some half-hearted appeals came from the Derby bench after Jason Knight had taken a theatrical tumble under a challenge from Carter-Vickers but referee Oliver Langford was unmoved.

Steve Cook’s perfectly-timed tackle prevented Jozwiak from pulling the trigger after he had wriggled through in the 30th minute before Begovic added another stunning save to his collection.

The Cherries goalkeeper hared off his line and spread himself after Lee Buchanan had gone clear, saving superbly with his right knee to preserve the deadlock.

As the Rams continued to press, a shot from the lively Jozwiak was deflected past the post by skipper Steve Cook.

However, from the resultant corner, delivered by Graeme Shinnie, Bielik poked home the opening goal through a crowd of players from six yards in the 32nd minute, giving Begovic no chance.

Knight fired well wide towards the end of the first half before Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos raced off his line to beat Danjuma to Lerma’s delicate pass.

King and Chris Mepham replaced Adam Smith and Carter-Vickers as manager Tindall made two changes at the interval.

And King went close to restoring parity just 19 seconds after coming off the bench, heading Danjuma’s cross straight into the grateful arms of Roos.

Lewis Cook’s speculative long-range effort sailed high over the crossbar before Lloyd Kelly did well to see out a dangerous ball over the top.

Mepham’s ball from inside his own half picked out Solanke but his strike from a tight angle could only find the side netting ten minutes after the restart.

Byrne, who enjoyed a loan spell with the Cherries in 2010/11, twice tried his luck in quick succession, both efforts straight down Begovic’s throat.

Lewis Cook came to the Cherries’ rescue on the hour when he cleared Matt Clarke’s header from a Byrne corner off the line.

Sam Surridge replaced Danjuma midway through the second half before crosses from Stacey and Kelly just would not fall for a Cherries player.

Bielik, picked out by a cross from Colin Kazim-Richards, saw his goalbound effort from just inside the box blocked by Mepham.

Lewis Cook was the first name into referee Langford’s book for a foul on Knight before a combination of Roos and Wisdom prevented Surridge nipping in on goal.

Wilshere replaced David Brooks 13 minutes from time before Wisdom deflected Steve Cook’s shot past the post.

And from the resultant corner, despatched by Lewis Cook, Kelly thought he had levelled with a header, only for Roos to make a top-drawer save to keep it out.

Kelly’s long throw caused confusion in the hosts’ ranks and, after the ball had eventually fallen to Stacey, his effort flashed past the post.
