Ake secures February Player of the Month

Nathan Ake has scooped the Michael Matthews Player-of-the-Month award for February, pipping teammate Artur Boruc by four per cent of the vote.

Defender Ake, who was crowned players’ player of the year last season, received 35 per cent of supporters’ votes on the club’s Twitter poll.

The 24-year-old Dutchman starred during what proved to be a challenging month for the Cherries, with Eddie Howe’s team picking up one point from a draw and three defeats.

Ake was at his imperious best and turned in an outstanding display when the Cherries battled out a 1-1 draw with Wolves at Vitality Stadium on March 23rd.

His heroics at the back ensured the visitors were restricted to few presentable chances until Raul Jimenez restored parity from the spot late on to cancel out Joshua King’s spot-kick opener.

Ake played every minute of every game in February as did goalkeeper Boruc, who polled 31 per cent of the supporters’ votes.

Boruc was kept busy in defeats by Cardiff, Liverpool and Arsenal, making a number of good saves as the Cherries struggled for points on their travels.

Ake wins his first monthly award this season with previous winners being Ryan Fraser (August and September), David Brooks (October, December and January) and Jefferson Lerma (November).

The other nominees for the award were Joshua King and Dan Gosling, who skippered the Cherries for the first time in the Premier League when he donned the armband against Wolves.

Congratulations, Nathan!
