Ake reflects on Spurs defeat

AFC Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake has shared his thoughts of the Cherries’ defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley this afternoon.

Christian Eriksen’s strike early on in the second half was enough to secure all three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with the Cherries unable to find a reply.

Following the defeat, the Dutch international spoke to afcbTV about the game.

“I think we executed our game plan well,” he said.

“Obviously it’s difficult against a good team and we had to defend more than we’re used to, but we did really well in the first half especially. They came at us a lot, but didn’t create too much.

“Early in the second half, there was one move where they penetrated us. I think after that we were a bit shaky but we had chances ourselves.

“If we score those ones then it’s a different game, but now we’ve lost 1-0 and of course its sore to take.

“Obviously, everyone is frustrated and disappointed because we need to start picking up points now. It’s just about winning games now that we’ve got our form back.

“If we play like this, it should come.”

Despite the defeat, Ake remained upbeat about the performance and claimed there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

“We stopped a top class striker today and that’s a positive,” he continued.

“We played with five at the back and that gave us more stability. It helped us mark Kane in the middle.

“Next week, we play Stoke and we need the points so we’ll be going there to win.”
