AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth host Luton Town on Saturday for the first time in a league game since 2009 – when the teams were 91st and 92nd in the Football League.

Both clubs had been hit with points deductions ahead of the start of the season and were languishing in the bottom two when they met on 27th January.

Two months earlier, a pulsating 3-3 draw at Kenilworth Road had seen the Cherries move on to zero points, wiping out their 17-point deduction after 18 games.

And when the teams resumed battle at Dean Court, they were still ten and 19 points adrift, respectively, with the Hatters at the foot of the table.

Danny Hollands went from villain to hero as the points were shared, the midfielder scoring at both ends in the space of 18 first-half minutes.

He poked Sam Parkin’s cross past his own goalkeeper David Button after just 11 minutes before making amends when he netted with a thunderous right-foot strike in the 29th minute.

The Cherries went on to pull off the Greatest Escape, finishing nine points clear of the drop zone, while the Hatters suffered relegation.

And while AFC Bournemouth climbed from League Two to the Premier League between 2010 and 2015, Luton won promotions from the Conference to the Championship between 2014 and 2019.
