Stags test for Cherries in county cup

AFC Totton stand between the AFC Bournemouth development squad and a place in the final of this season’s Servio Hampshire Men’s Senior Cup.

The Cherries were paired against the Stags in the semi-final draw and will do battle at their Snows Stadium headquarters on a date to be decided.

Wessex Premier Division outfit AFC Portchester will host a Southampton FC XI in the other semi-final, with the final taking place at Aldershot’s EBB Stadium on Friday 10th May.

Alan Connell’s team booked a place in the last four courtesy of a 4-0 win over Folland Sports thanks to goals from Baylin Johnson, Lewis Brown (penalty), Jonny Stuttle and Malachi Ogunleye.

AFC Totton triumphed 2-1 at Hartley Wintney in the second round, beat East Cowes Vics 7-0 in the third and won 5-0 against the Royal Navy in their quarter-final.

Managed by Jimmy Ball, son of England 1966 World Cup winner Alan and uncle to Cherries under-18 goalkeeper Mack Allan, AFC Totton are currently fifth in Southern League Premier South.

Beaten in last season’s final by Basingstoke Town, the Cherries lifted the trophy at AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium in May 2021 following a dramatic conclusion to their game against Eastleigh.

Trailing 2-1 in the closing stages, Mark Travers ventured forward for a corner and headed home an equaliser before the Cherries goalkeeper starred as they triumphed 5-3 on penalties.

A date for the semi-final and ticket information will be released in due course.
