AFC Bournemouth lifted the Hampshire Senior Cup following a dramatic conclusion to the final against Eastleigh at AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium on Tuesday.

The Cherries were trailing 2-1 in added time when goalkeeper Mark Travers came up for a corner and headed home Gavin Kilkenny’s delivery to take the tie to penalties.

Travers, who had saved Dan Smith’s first-half spot-kick, kept out Dan Bradshaw’s first penalty in the shootout to set up a 5-3 win for the Cherries.

Kilkenny, Keelan O’Connell, Jaidon Anthony, Brooklyn Genesini and Corey Jordan all despatched their penalties as Shaun Cooper’s team added the county cup to the Central League Cup they won after beating Carlisle in the final at St George’s Park last week.

Kilkenny’s superb 20-yard free-kick cancelled out Abdulai Baggie’s fourth-minute opener for Eastleigh as the teams reached the break on level terms.

And although Ben Scorey restored the Spitfires’ lead early in the second half, Travers came to the Cherries’ rescue late on before the Irishman continued his heroics in the shootout.
