AFC Bournemouth bowed out of the Premier League Cup with their heads held high following a dramatic defeat by Leeds United on Friday.

Their club-record run to the knockout stage ended in heartbreaking fashion as the category one Whites struck in the tenth minute of added time to run out 3-2 victors.

The Cherries, elevated to category two academy status this season, reached the last 16 after topping their group with the best record out of the 32 clubs which entered the competition this season.

Alan Connell’s team, unbeaten in the group stage, twice took the lead at Eastleigh’s Silverlake Stadium through goals from Balraj Landa and Dom Sadi either side of half-time.

But Leeds levelled through Sonny Perkins on the stroke of half-time and again through Luca Thomas in the 81st minute.

With extra-time looming, Perkins grabbed the winner before Leeds goalkeeper Harry Christy made a remarkable double save from Archie Harris and Jonny Stuttle to win it for the visitors.
