Fletcher on 21s' triumph v Exeter

AFC Bournemouth under-21s coach Carl Fletcher was pleased to see his side bounce back from Friday's defeat at Brentford with a 4-1 win over Exeter City.

Fletcher spoke to afcb.co.uk following the side's resounding win at Canford Park Arena and gave his assessment on the big win.

On bouncing back with a resounding win…

I felt we didn’t do the basics right against Brentford on Friday so I’m really pleased we were better today.

The tempo was better and the work rate too, they’re all good players so if we get the basics right then there’s a big chance we’ll perform well.

Of course, as I always say there’s still things to work on for everyone but it was better and we’re pleased as we looked a lot more like ourselves.

On working with the team…

It’s always a mixed one as everything’s always up in the air with the 21s, you’ve got players going out on loan, players required for the first team and today for example, we had Connor Mahoney and Emerson Hyndman drop to come and play.

So you never have a set team to work with on a daily basis, but it’s important that when we do have the players, they know what we want and what we expect.

It’s a work in progress but the more games they play the better they’ll get.

On Hyndman and Mahoney featuring in the last two games…

It’s good for them to get some game time, Emerson has been injured and Connor is new to the club so we’re making sure they’re ready to go.

It’s great for us and it’s also beneficial for them. The young lads will learn bits from them and it’s been good to have them with us.
