Development squad fall to ruthless Hull City

A frenetic first half condemned the development squad to defeat at Hull City.

Alan Connell’s side travelled to MKM Stadium for their second fixture of the week, following on from the 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

It had been a largely dominant display at Vitality Stadium but the young Cherries found themselves behind after just three minutes on this occasion.

Vaughn Covil drilled into the bottom corner, having received the ball from Jim Simms following a run by Joseph Johnson.

Tyrell Sellars-Fleming doubled their advantage in the 26th minute as Johnson and Simms combined effectively on the left once more.

Having set up two goals, Simms got on the scoresheet himself just two minutes later when he beat Cameron Plain in a one-on-one.

The third goal essentially killed the game off but Connell’s side continued to push for an unlikely way back into the game and Dominic Sadi was the most likely to score.

The midfielder showed flashes of his brilliance, firstly weaving his way into the area and seeing his strike smash against the crossbar.

He found himself in space a few minutes later, receiving a floated cross at the back post and poking towards goal but his goal-bound effort was thwarted by Kyle Fanning’s last-ditch tackle.

Noa Boutin also had a good opportunity to get on the scoresheet but he saw his effort bounce the wrong side of the post.

Despite plenty of effort, it clearly wasn’t the Cherries’ day, which was typified in stoppage time when Archie Harris’ back-pass slipped under Plain’s foot and nestled into the net for a fourth Hull City goal.

The Cherries are next in action on Tuesday in the Hampshire Senior Cup, taking on Moneyfields at AFC Portchester.
