Cooper - They want to win it again

Shaun Cooper has claimed that his side are eager to replicate last year's success by retaining the Central League Cup this season.

The under-21s were 2-0 winners over Bristol Rovers this afternoon, with goals from Kyle Taylor and Alex Dobre sending the Cherries into the semi-finals.

Despite the win, Cooper admitted that there is still more to come from his side, who won their 17th game of the season at Yate Town.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk, he said: "Credit to the boys for win in the end, but as far as the performance goes, we spoke at the end and I think we're all in agreement that it was a bit flat from us.

"It was a really really tough pitch to play on and maybe that had an impact, but it wasn't our greatest performance I have to say.

"Again credit to the boys for winning all three group games. I've said many times how competitive they are and how much they want to win, so in that respect it's pleasing.

"Having said that, if we want to go on and try to win the trophy then we need to have a bit more tempo and energy than we did today."

Cooper also spoke about how winning last year's competition can bring his side confidence when it comes to the big games.

"They want to go out there and win it again," he continued.

"I don't envisage them going on and playing like that too often, so it's nothing to worry about, but moving forwards we'll certainly look to improve on today's performance.

"We've got Stoke in the Premier League Cup next and always look forward to those games.

"We've got no match next week, so we'll have a good week's training and have plenty of time to prepare for it."

The under-21s travel north for their penultimate game in Group E on Monday 10th February, with three points guaranteeing them a place in the knock-out stages of the competition.
