Writing Stars Competition Winner Announced

AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust have announced the Premier League Primary Stars’ Writing Stars competition winner.

In line with the Premier League’s national competition, AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust ran a local Writing Stars competition, which encourages primary school children to write poems on the theme of resilience.

In total, the Community Spots Trust received over 450 entries in the competition, which ran for just over six weeks.

The AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust primary stars coaches visited local primary schools including Kinson Primary and Heathlands Primary School to host resilience workshops and encourage the pupils to enter their poems in the competition.

The winner received a whole host of prizes including a Cherries goodie bag and a family ticket to watch the Boxing Day Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and West Ham United, whilst the winning poem was also shown on the big screen at the game ahead of kick-off.

The winning poem was written by Kinson Primary School student Jonathan Ralph and reads:

It’s time for kick off

And the whistle is blown

AFC Bournemouth, are playing at home

The crowd are all there to support their team

And the players are playing, because it’s their dream

We’re winning then losing, it looks like defeat

But always try your best and you’ll never be beat

Talking about the competition, head of community Steve Cuss commented: “The standard of entries in the poetry competition was of a very high standard and we were delighted to receive so many entries.

“Congratulations to Jonathan, who enjoyed watching a Premier League game for the first time.”
