AFC Bournemouth Girls kicked off another season in the Hampshire Girls Youth Football League with two excellent wins last weekend.
With just the under-14 and under-16 girls in match action, the under-10s trained on Saturday morning, whilst the under-12s trained at Vitality Stadium in the afternoon before watching the Cherries play Leicester City.
The under-14s kicked off their league campaign with a strong 2-0 win against Bournemouth Sports Girls, at Chapel Gate. A number of chances were created during the first half, for the AFC Bournemouth side, with both Kitty and Faith hitting the framework early on.
As the half progressed, the Cherries settled more into the game, and were dominating possession. This quality in possession allowed the team to produce more chances and, on the 22nd minute, Lucy pounced on the ball in the box to slot home the teams first goal.
No further strikes were scored until the 59th minute, when Hannah H. won a free-kick following a forward run. She duly converted to make it 2-0, consolidating a good first win for the AFC Bournemouth under-14s.
Meanwhile, the under-16s hosted St. Francis for their first league fixture. A resounding scoreline for the girls ensured that they took all three points from their opening fixture of the season.
Nine different scorers stole the show for the Cherries, with them recording an excellent start to the season. The goals included a hat-trick from last season’s player of the year Erin, four goals from Mia, who has just moved up from the under-14s side, and a league debut goal for Olivia.
Following the weekend, head of community Steve Cuss spoke about the AFC Bournemouth Girls’ opening games of the season.
