Travers pitches in for Fibre Fans workshop

Mark Travers was on hand to help out at the Fibre Fans workshop at Epiphany School in Muscliffe earlier this month.

Sponsored by CityFibre, the workshop was delivered by the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust and designed to educate children on the uses of the internet and how it has evolved over time.

The programme will be delivered through 50 workshops in schools within BCP during the 21/22 academic year.

Player ambassador Travers joined the local students at the session to talk about his career as well as answering questions from the young participants at the event.

As part of the interactive workshop, the students designed their own computer game based around their hobbies, while also testing their knowledge in a Q&A session.

With the world being more digitally driven, the workshop helped support the importance of digital skills and raises awareness of digital inclusion.

It also looked at the history of the internet, breaking down the science behind the speed of light that travels within the fibre optic cables.

At the end of the session, the children received a signed programme from Travers as well as other CityFibre goodies.

CityFibre is the UK's largest alternative provider of wholesale fibre network infrastructure and the builder of Gigabit Cities.

Simon Holland, CityFibre’s Build Manager for Bournemouth, said: “Working with AFC Bournemouth has been a great pleasure for CityFibre as we build across Bournemouth.

“Fibre Fans is a great programme that teaches primary school children about the history of the internet and how Full Fibre has come to be needed to help the country move forward in its digital future.

“It's great to have a young and upcoming player on board the programme like Mark Travers and was a highlight of my day to see the children surprised when he visited.”
