Seth Burkett joins AFC Bournemouth for Club Authors Day

More than 50 children joined Seth Burkett at Vitality Stadium this month to take part in a Premier League Primary Stars club Authors Day.

Hosted by professional football club community organisations, Premier League Primary Stars Club Authors Day is part of the Premier League’s free primary school education programme which uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.

Children’s author Seth Burkett joined pupils from three local primary schools, Bethany Junior School, Pokesdown Primary School and St James’ Academy, to take part in a series of fun workshops and activities.

Throughout the morning, the pupils took part in a carousel of activities hosted by the Community Sports Trust. These included an active literacy lesson and a Reading Stars classroom lesson.

Each school also had an exclusive look behind the scenes at Vitality Stadium, touring the changing rooms, media suites and taking a look pitchside. They then had the opportunity to meet AFC Bournemouth women’s goalkeeper Katie Scadding and ask her their questions about her football career.

The afternoon involved an introduction to Seth Burkett, including a look at his background and how he got into writing, before he hosted a workshop for the pupils to plan and prepare their own story, using the techniques he uses when writing.

Head of community Steve Cuss told afcb.co.uk on the event: “We were delighted to welcome the local schools to our Authors Day at the Vitality Stadium.

“Author Seth Burkett worked with the pupils in an interactive workshop which was inspirational for all, and we thank Seth for delivering and working with the schools as part of our Premier League Primary Stars project.”

To finish the day, each child received a copy of Burkett’s book ‘Tekkers’, which he signed for each child along with a signed AFC Bournemouth women’s poster from Katie Scadding.
