Primary Stars pupils enjoy being matchday guests

Pupils from Avonwood Primary School and Fair Isle School in Southampton attended last weekend’s game against Wolves as guests of the Community Sports Trust.

The youngsters came together to represent not only their schools but also AFC Bournemouth and Southampton FC in a fixture on the 3G pitches at Vitality Stadium.

Wearing a Cherries kit, the players representing Avonwood School played brilliantly during the matches and penalty shoot-out competitions in what was an enjoyable encounter for all involved.

The boys and girls from both schools were then invited to the first team game in the afternoon and participated as flagbearers while the two teams walked out of the tunnel. They then had a second penalty shootout on the pitch at half time, with a fair but competitive nature on display.

Speaking about the Primary Stars event, head of community Steve Cuss said: “We were delighted to welcome Southampton for a Premier League Primary Stars fixture last weekend.

“The whole day, including being flagbearers, taking penalties on the pitch and playing their own match on the 3G pitches was an experience that the youngsters will never forget."
