Last Saturday, as part of the Premier League Primary Stars project, local school Heathlands Primary were invited to Vitality Stadium to play a fixture against Valentine Primary School from Southampton.
The two teams played five-a-side matches on AFC Bournemouth’s 3G pitches, before heading into the stadium to watch the Premier League fixture between the Cherries and Leicester City.
Heathlands Primary School, from West Howe, are currently receiving PE lessons from the Community Sports Trust’s Primary Stars team and represented the Cherries at the fixture.
The Premier League Primary Stars project offers a six-week PE programme to children in Poole and Bournemouth Primary Schools, with additional workshops around Reading, and PSHE based topics also on offer.
At present, 20 schools have booked and are taking part in these PE sessions throughout their school week, which run with the support of local partner Medhurst IT.
This week sees the Community Sports Trust return to their PE delivery with the children at Heathlands Primary School, but only after the children who took part in the fixture receive their medals and certificates in a whole-school assembly.
Following the event, Heathlands teacher Steve Pill was quick to thank the Cherries for their efforts on the day.
“I thought the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust were excellent with the children,” he claimed.
“They had a really good time and it was a great occasion.”
AFC Bournemouth’s Head of Community, Steve Cuss, echoed the success of the event.
“The Premier League Primary Stars project is proving to be a fantastic was of engaging with schools across Bournemouth and Poole,” he began.
“We are always delighted to welcome Schools to the Vitality Stadium, with Heathlands Primary School enjoying a memorable day.”
