AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust are delighted to announce Marcus Tavernier and Gemma McGuinness as the 2023/24 recipients of the PFA Community Champion award.

Both players have supported a number of community activities over the duration of the 2023/24 campaign.

Men's first-team winger Tavernier has supported the Cherries Community Fund, schools mental health events and a Vitality content series.

Meanwhile, women's team forward McGuinness featured on BBC Match of the Day with the Cherries Kickstart project, along with supporting the girls' programmes with nutritional workshops and supporting BCP knife campaign.

Head of community Steve Cuss told afcb.co.uk: “I’m extremely grateful for all the players' appearances throughout the season, supporting the community projects in the local area and give thanks to all the players across the scholars, development, women and Premier league squads for their continued support.

“Marcus and Gemma have supported a number of different projects and have greatly impacted many individuals, with the awards paying tribute to their community support."

Maheta Molango, CEO of the Professional Footballers’ Association, added: “The PFA has once again been immensely proud of the outstanding efforts of players this season and we feel they should be recognised for their support and involvement in the local community.

"The award will hopefully raise awareness of the importance many of our members attach to their roles off the pitch and highlight their continued commitment to support those most in need along with engaging in areas where they have a personal interest.

"We would like to offer our congratulations to this season’s recipients of the 2023/24 PFA Community Champion award.”
