Tyrone Mings has been announced as an ambassador for Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion organisation.
The 24-year-old will help endorse the messages of Kick It Out by providing support with events and initiatives run by the organisation.
Mings recently supported Kick It Out as they hosted a Powerchair Football session alongside AFC Bournemouth’s Community Trust in November 2017.
Mings observed the session alongside Paul Mortimer, Kick It Out’s Professional Players Engagement Manager, before taking part in a Q&A with the young participants as they were given the opportunity to quiz him on his career.
The Kick It Out ambassador has also been an outspoken critic of discrimination on social media, recently sharing his experience of racist abuse suffered on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in an interview with iNews.
The ambassador programme at Kick It Out brings together a number of footballers from diverse backgrounds across the Premier League, English Football League, Women’s Super League and beyond to champion the organisation’s core messages of equality and inclusion.
Mings will join AFC Bournemouth teammate Callum Wilson, as well as the likes of Barcelona star Toni Duggan, Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson and Stoke City and England goalkeeper Jack Butland as an ambassador.
Upon his announcement, Mings was pleased to show his support for Kick It Out.
"Becoming an ambassador for Kick It Out is a proud moment for me," he said. "Equality and inclusion is something I feel very strongly about and Kick It Out does hugely important work within the community to deliver those messages.
"I look forward to helping continue to spread the word and use the power of football as a vehicle for change."
Paul Mortimer was also delighted to welcome Mings to the cohort of ambassadors.
“Tyrone is a welcome addition to our team of ambassadors, as someone who has not been afraid to speak out against discrimination in the past.
“The event we hosted alongside Tyrone and AFC Bournemouth’s Community Trust was a fantastic afternoon for everyone involved and provided a vital opportunity for us to team up and promote disability inclusion in football.
“I am very excited to continue working closely with Tyrone to champion equality in football and ensure the game is inclusive for everyone.”
