AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Last weekend saw a number of fixtures for the AFC Bournemouth Girls and Women’s teams postponed due to the weather. However, two fixtures still went ahead, with the under-12s and the development squad both in action.

Following their Inter Cup successes, AFC Bournemouth’s under-12 girls were in League Cup action as they faced Winchester City Flyers.

The Cherries built on the dominative and composed football previously played, keeping most of the early possession.

Within minutes, the side had taken lead through Emily A., who later scored again in the first half. One additional goal from Lucy, saw AFC Bournemouth end the half with a 3-0 advantage.

After the break, the Cherries combined well and continued to provide opportunities in front of goal, as Aimee C. scored two goals in quick succession to further extend the lead.

Throughout the half, the under-12s continued to play well and further extended their lead. Lucy finished the game on a high, scoring a further three goals to see her go top scorer in the league, now with an impressive 17 goals in just six appearances.

The only other game for AFC Bournemouth this weekend was the Hampshire FA Women’s League tie between AFC Bournemouth and AFC Portchester.

A lacklustre first half saw the Cherries trailing 2-0 at the break, but an exciting second half resulting in the side winning it with a late goal.

Jade Hockey’s second half brace saw the Cherries level the game up with just ten minutes to go and the continued pressure for a winner paid off for AFC Bournemouth, when Katie Scadding scored from inside the box.

Summarising the weekend, Head of Community Steve Cuss told afcb.co.uk: “With the weather effecting the weekend games, we were pleased to get the two fixtures for the under-12s and development squad, who both produced good performances.”
