AFC Bournemouth’s Head of Community Steve Cuss will be visiting China as part of the Premier League Skills Project.
The programme, which is run by both the Premier League and British Council, uses football as a tool to engage with and develop the skills of young people, consequently helping to develop a brighter future for those around the world.
The scheme is the Premier League’s lead international development project and uses community projects to not only improve English language skills around the world, but also to aid the development of community coaches and referees.
This is the first time that AFC Bournemouth has been involved in the project, with Steve heading to Ningbo for a total of 10 days.
Working with 40 local school teachers, the project will allow for them to gain knowledge of working practices in environments transferable from the UK to China. The final day of delivery will see 80 local children partake in a football festival, highlighting the Premier League Skills Project further.
To date, approximately 7,600 Premier League Skills coaches and referees have reached more than 1.2 million children and young people, with the programme currently operating in a total of 29 countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Ahead of visiting China, Steve spoke to afcb.co.uk about the exciting opportunity.
He said: “I’m very much looking forward to working on the Premier League Skills programme in China.
“The opportunity to work with school teachers and players from the Ningbo area of China provides great opportunities to share working practices and promote AFC Bournemouth.”
