Girls teams get league season underway

Following the suspension of the Hampshire Girls and Junior Premier Leagues in March, AFC Bournemouth girls’ teams returned to league action this month.

The under-14s and under-16s were the first teams to face off, playing AFC Wimbledon at home.

Under-14s

A tough start for the under-14s saw them suffer a 6-2 defeat, however the game was not without excitement. Maddie, our goalkeeper, made several great saves, whilst Aimee. C and Lily provided a threat at the other end.

Most of the goals were scored in the second half, Aimee netting after going 1v1 with the goalkeeper before netting from Holly's cross for the second moments later.

Under-16s

The under-16s also suffered defeat in another incredible match, losing 5-3. Three goals in the first half gave the visitors a huge lead before Hannah. H netted from close range following Lucy's pass.

Two more goals from Wimbledon extended the lead before Hannah netted her second of the game, before Lucy breached the visitors defence to finish in the bottom corner.

The following weekend saw the under-11s and under-12s kick-start their new seasons in the Hampshire Girls Youth Football League.

Under-11s

The under-11s travelled to Winsor for their first outing of the season, a game which turned out to be full of action. The youngest Cherries squad worked well as team and showed some great creativity and decision making, which saw a total of seven players earn their spot on the scoresheet.

Under-12s

The under-12’s recorded an excellent 8-0 victory in their opening game of the season. The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute as Teagan finished in the bottom corner before Scarlett quickly added the second.

The final goal of the first half was scored by Phoebe. M who finished from the edge of the box following some impressive passing in the midfield. The Cherries were dominant in the second half, having the best of the chances.

Teagan completed her hattrick with goals added from Scarlett and Faye, who shot from the outside of the box to bury the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
