Duo receive England school caps

Lucy Cooper and Elle Elkins of AFC Bournemouth under-16s have received their international caps with the English Schools FA (ESFA).

The duo were selected through their schools to be a part of the England set-up as under-15s last year, but the competition was continued through to this season due to Covid-19.

ESFA run national competitions for secondary school pupils and aim to provide opportunities for talented youngsters to experience playing in a high level, while also representing their school in a nationally recognised competition.

With Elle representing Hampshire and Lucy representing Dorset, they both took part in a five-day training camp in Eindhoven, playing two games in Holland.

A 2-0 win in their opening game was followed by an impressive 2-2 draw with Feyenoord, before the dup then went on to visit Cochrane Park in Newcastle for a fixture against the Scottish schools FA.

Following the game, the players were presented with their international caps to mark the end of the extended international programme.

With the girls back in Bournemouth training, head of community Steve Cuss shared his delight at their success with afcb.co.uk.

“Congratulations to both Lucy and Elle for the fantastic achievement of being selected and representing England Schools.

"Both players have progressed through the age groups at AFC Bournemouth and have been rewarded for their performances and development as players.

"We are all very proud of both their achievements and look forward to their continued progression.”
