Community support Rainbow Laces campaign

AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust have been supporting Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ inclusion in football and society as a whole and will be celebrated by all clubs.

The campaign this year highlights the importance of holding open conversations in support of LGBTQ+ communities, a theme that complements AFC Bournemouth’s Everyone Together campaign.

The club’s Community Sports Trust more than played their part, with members of the women’s and girls’ teams wearing rainbow laces for their fixtures that fell within the two weeks of the campaign.

Additionally, members of the Premier League Kicks programme took part in a small workshop at Potterne Park focused on the theme and all received a complimentary pair of rainbow laces.

Elsewhere, there were more workshops for participants of the Premier League Inspires programme, with community coaches going into schools to spread a very important message.

After the campaign, head of community Steve Cuss shared his thoughts on its success with afcb.co.uk.

“We were delighted to promote the Rainbow Laces campaign across a variety of community initiatives, providing an opportunity for open discussion, along with raising awareness and spreading the very important message of inclusion.”
