Community Sports Trust visit South Africa with Premier Skills

AFC Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust coach Sofia Bravo spent two weeks in South Africa delivering the Premier Skills programme.

Sofia, who delivers largely on the club's Premier League Primary Stars programme, spent a week in Cape Town and a week in Eastern Cape delivering the Premier Skills Phase One Course, which specialises in physical education coaching. It also offers an introduction to coach education.

The five-day delivery within schools helped to educate the local PE teachers on the importance of physical education lessons, safeguarding and keeping children safe and different coaching styles before the teachers had the opportunity to put into practise what they had learnt.

To finish the week, the teachers hosted a festival, supported by Sofia and Premier League Skills team, offering 100 children from the area the opportunity to take part in physical education multi-sport games.

Head of Community Steve Cuss spoke to afcb.co.uk about the opportunity given through the Premier Skills programme: “It was a great opportunity and experience for Sofia to deliver the Premier Skills programme in South Africa.

“We were delighted to be able to support the Premier League with the project and share good practices in South Africa.”
