Community round-up: Women and girls football in focus

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Head of Community Sports Trust Steve Cuss updates afcb.co.uk on the latest happenings in and around the local area.

A variety of work is currently being offered by the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust, as we continue to deliver our community projects, both locally and abroad this week.

At present, we have two coaches working in South Africa in partnership with the Premier League and Kick4Life project, upskilling coaches who are looking to improve their skills in differentiation delivering sessions to players with visual impairments whilst leading on disability-specific sessions.

Alongside this we have continued back in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas, with over 120 sessions taking place this week engaging with over 4,000 participants.

We are delighted to be celebrating International Women’s Day, particularly through our girls and women’s programme.

On Friday, we will be hosting a girls only tournament for both primary and secondary schools at Bournemouth University. In total over 80 girls will be taking part in the tournament from ten local schools in the area.

The AFC Bournemouth girls and women’s teams are also doing exceptionally well. This weekend, the under-16 girls are in the Hampshire Cup final where they face Southampton Under-16s.

The Cherries are current holders of this trophy and we look forward to supporting the eldest girls' age group this Saturday.

Girls secure League Cup final places

AFC Bournemouth Under-10 and Under-12 girls secured their League Cup final places in spectacular fashion last weekend. The two fixtures saw 18 goals and 13 different goal-scorers, including one hat-trick.

University Ladies set for semi-final

This Wednesday, Bournemouth University Ladies look forward to welcoming their counterparts from Bristol University to Chapel Gate for the BUCS Sport Trophy semi-final. The Community Sports Trust assist the training of the ladies team twice a week, and every Wednesday matchday.

Good luck to the ladies in their fixture this week!

Women’s teams in action

This Sunday, both AFC Bournemouth women's teams play their next fixtures on home soil. The first team, who are currently top of the league host Barton Rovers at Verwood Town FC, in the Southern Region Women’s League Chairman’s Cup semi-final, whilst the development squad host Horndean Ladies at Canford 3G.

Kick off for both games is at 2pm.

Female Fitness Club

This newly formed activity for females over 35 continues every Thursday evening utilising the Stadium’s Gym facilities in the East Stand offering circuit training. Good numbers have been attending enjoying the exercise in a relaxed environment.
