Community round up: Girls and women's success

Head of our Community Sports Trust Steve Cuss updates afcb.co.uk on the latest happenings in and around the local area.

To start this fortnight’s article, I would like to congratulate the Women’s Development Squad on a very successful season. Last Sunday, the team played their final game of the year, where they lifted the Hampshire Women’s Invitation Cup trophy and won the double.

Sunday’s game against Widbrook Ladies FC was an 11-goal thriller, which ended 6-5 in favor of the Cherries when Helen Corbin netted the winner in the 80th minute.

The weekend prior, they wrapped up an unbeaten league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth Sports Ladies. The point from this game was enough to secure them the league title too.

This weekend, we look forward to hosting Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Development Squad at Verwood Town FC for a friendly fixture. Kick-off is 11am and it is free to come along and support the team. We hope to see lots of you there.

Special Ability Counts session for local children

During the Easter Holidays, we were delighted to host a special football training session for a selection of our Ability Counts players.

The children were joined by Cathedral City player ambassador Ryan Fraser and defender Nathan Ake, who helped them learn new skills during their session, before signing autographs for all the children too.
