AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust have been out at local schools promoting the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from Avonwood Primary and St James Academy were involved and listened to guest speaker Paul Hill, who spoke about all kinds of discrimination, specifically racism and stereotypes.

The children learned about what they can do to stop racism and how to make a difference in their local community through the interactive workshop. Partners, J.P. Morgan, supported the event with volunteers from their BOLD group.

The afternoon finished with a panel event, which included the club’s Head of Community, Steve Cuss, Co-Lead of the BOLD Group at JP Morgan, Michael Edah, and under-18 players Archie Harris and Baylin Johnson. Both Archie and Baylin talked openly around topics of discrimination and answered the varied questions from all the children.

The panel answered questions about racism and discrimination, while also sharing their own experiences.

After an incredibly valuable day, Cuss spoke with afcb.co.uk about its success.

“The Show Racism the Red Card school event provided an open environment to discuss and learn on areas of racism and discrimination, both within football and within society.”

“Thank you to both schools, who were engaged throughout and to partners J.P. Morgan along with the panel which included players Archie Harris and Baylin Johnson”
