Club proud to launch Cherries, Together initiative

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth are delighted to announce a new initiative called Cherries, Together, which launched at Vitality Stadium last month.

Cherries, Together is a project that aims to work with groups that are historically underrepresented at AFC Bournemouth, in order to engage more individuals from our local area.

The initiative, which is funded by the Premier League and run specifically by the club’s Community Sports Trust, will benefit a number of different people, with one of the aims to encourage and facilitate engagement and conversation across different community groups, generations and protected characteristics.

The project’s focus is primarily on adults from underrepresented communities, while the reach will also expand to youngsters who might want to attend with their parents.

In addition, representatives from across club supporter groups will be involved in the sessions, ensure they stay engaged in activity and further developing the pre-existing relationship already built.

Sessions will include the likes of a coffee morning, careers workshops, trips to watch our women’s team and development squad, plus a social action events.

The project will look to ensure that all participants engaging in the project have a clear, long-term pathway that will continue to offer opportunities once their involvement in the project has ceased.

Following the conclusion of the first session, Hannah Powis, the club’s Head of EDI and Engagement, spoke with afcb.co.uk: “I’m delighted to have launched this new initiative, which will not only help grow the supporter base of AFC Bournemouth, but also make sure we’re in touch with our local community.

“We have always historically been such a community-orientated club and this initiative, which will run throughout the year, is just another example of that.

“Our supporter groups have really helped us shape the project and it was great to see so many of them in attendance at our launch event in May. We would like to pass our thanks to those supporter groups that have been a part of shaping this project and those who attended the launch event. It’s vital we work closely with them to ensure the needs of our local community are met.”

Participants, Phil and Tony Mutter, also commented: "We very much enjoyed the stadium tour, as well as the coffee and cookies. Just as enjoyable were the round table discussions. It was fascinating and informative to talk with and listen to people from other minority groups.

"We feel there is so much we can all learn from each other, education that deepens our knowledge and understanding of each other. Then, before long, we won't all be in different groups of people but different people in one group, all Cherries supporters."
