Last weekend saw the AFC Bournemouth Under-10 girls and Women’s Development Squad return to their respective league fixtures following a short break over Christmas.

The Under-10’s travelled to Fareham on Saturday morning, whilst the Women’s Development Squad made the short trip to New Milton on the Sunday.

The Under-10’s were brilliant in possession on Saturday and their sharp passing play yielded plenty of opportunities. They defended well in all areas and made it difficult for Fareham to create opportunities in the Bournemouth half.

The pick of the goals was a superb header from Zuzanna, which came following a superb cross by Krystal into the area.

Sunday’s game saw the Cherries pick up a point on the road, as they drew 2-2 with New Milton Ladies.

New Milton started brightly forcing the Cherries goalkeeper into a number of good saves, but they could not keep in-form striker Helen Corbin from netting the opening goal of the game in the 33rd minute.

Ayuma Asira stole the ball high up the pitch well and found Jade Hockey on the edge of the box. Hockey’s shot was saved by the New Milton ‘keeper and Corbin was on hand to convert the ball home from close range.

Within five minutes, New Milton had equalised when a low shot from captain Victoria Wardle from inside the penalty area found the bottom left hand corner.

The Cherries took control in the early stage of the second half and their patient possession play was rewarded in the 62nd minute, when Grace Morgan produced an excellent low cross from inside the penalty area where Corbin was once again on hand to apply the finishing touch.

New Milton, similarly, to the first half, responded to the goal within three minutes following a free-kick, when the striker got hold of a loose ball to tap into the empty net.

The Cherries did go close to getting three points, and Corbin a hat-trick, when she went through on goal but was denied by the ‘keeper before a long-range drive flew narrowly over.

Hockdy then rattled the crossbar late on meaning that the points were shared.
