As part of the Premier League Inspires programme, AFC Bournemouth held a host of Trailblazers workshops, further supporting Black History Month.

In celebration of the project, and to congratulate the young people on their hard work, students recently visited Vitality Stadium.

Trailblazers aims to look at influential black people within the football club and involved specific lessons and educational workshops with the school children.

Pupils from Magna Academy, Lytchett Minster School and Twynham School had all undertaken work on the project either this academic year or last.

They were treated to a tour of the stadium and a game of football on the 3G pitches at Vitality Stadium, while they also got to meet some past and present Cherries stars.

Former club captain Ian Cox visited the group and gave up his time in a question-and-answer session. He was asked about his playing days, international duty with Trinidad & Tobago and the role he does within the Community Sports Trust now.

Shortly after, midfielder Philip Billing was in the hot seat and came to speak to the children after training. They asked questions about his goalscoring form and what it was like growing up in Denmark.

After the session, head of community Steve Cuss caught up with afcb.co.uk and shared his delight at the session.

“The Trailblazers project has provided further opportunities in delivering key educational messages through the Premier League Inspires project.”

“The pupils have delivered some outstanding work and deserved their day at Vitality Stadium, and we are grateful to Philip Billing and Ian Cox for their support and providing a memorable event for all the schools.”
