AFC Bournemouth’s Premier League Enterprise representatives Avonbourne College travelled to Brighton and Hove Albion for their regional play-off.

Competing against schools representing Queens Park Rangers, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, the team of five girls presented their business idea, Global Cherries, to the panel of Premier League judges.

Over the past six weeks, the Community Sports Trust have been working weekly with the Avonbourne College students to develop their business idea and strengthen their presenting skills in preparation for last week’s play-off.

Whilst at Brighton’s American Express Stadium, the students also took part in a tour and an EY workshop with employees from the London based company, whilst waiting for the result from the judges.

Feedback on the Avonbourne College presentation was strong with the judges enjoying the original idea, which encompassed the values of AFC Bournemouth being a community and family club.

Avonbourne College finished runners-up in the regional heat.

Head of community Steve Cuss was one of four judges who selected Avonbourne College as AFC Bournemouth’s Enterprise winners and has since worked with the girls in the build-up to the regional heat.

He told afcb.co.uk, “the team from Avonbourne College deserve an enormous among of credit for the hard work and dedication they applied to the Premier League Enterprise Challenge.”

“We would like to thank the school and girls, who were fantastic ambassadors representing AFC Bournemouth in the national event.”
