Ake and Ibe go back to school

Last week, Cherries stars Nathan Ake and Jordon Ibe visited St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Poole, as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

The school, who are involved in the Primary Stars programme for a whole year, hosted a special afternoon for Year 4 pupils, as part of the Premier League’s Back to School campaign.

The children, who took part in a Play the Right Way classroom workshop, as well as a PE lesson and small-sided games on the MUGA area, were joined by Primary Stars project ambassador Ake and Cherries winger Ibe.

The pair helped to coach the small-sided games, getting involved with their team, setting them into formations and coaching from the side-lines.

Taking a break from their coaching roles, they visited the group in the classroom to talk about fair play and following the rules, before answering some football-based questions about their careers.

To end their afternoon at the school, they also helped to teach the children different skills in a dribbling and skills session.

Head of community Steve Cuss, who was at the St Mary’s PE lesson spoke following the event: “It was a great afternoon at St Mary’s, the children were very excited to meet Nathan and Jordon.”

“The Premier League Primary Stars programme is a fantastic way to engage with schools both with PE lessons but also within the classroom and we are very grateful to Nathan and Jordon for the fantastic support they gave to the Back to School event.”

The Premier League Primary Stars programme is free to all schools in Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset with additional extras also available at cost.
