Guest speaker Dr Darren Mann gave a fascinating insight into his work when he addressed attendees at the AFC Business Directors’ Lunch at Vitality Stadium earlier this month.
Dr Mann is a consultant general and military surgeon who has more than 30 years of experience leading teams around the world in disaster, conflict and war zones.
The event, staged in the Top Floor Restaurant and hosted by Harvey Thorneycroft, was sponsored by ESET, a global leader in cybersecurity. Click here to go to their website.
One of the many subjects Dr Mann spoke about was experiencing the traumatic 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami while on holiday with his family.
He also discussed his work as medical director for the Cabinet Office as part of the COVID-19 PPE Taskforce as well as being a medical lead for the Nightingale Hospital which was created within the ExCel London convention centre during the pandemic.
The event concluded with an enlightening question-and-answer session with Dr Mann when he shared some of his experiences with guests.
AFC Bournemouth President of Business Jim Frevola said: “When I came over in November, people told me about the AFC Business club and that it was an important part of what we do from a commercial perspective.
“The room was full of people who care about the club, care about Dorset, care about Bournemouth and care about this community.
“From a sponsorship perspective, ESET have been fantastic to work with and these AFC Business events are absolutely vital to what we’re doing.
“To have a room full of folks who have a vested interest and who appreciate what you’re doing with the club all gathering together on behalf of the club, that makes it a really important element for how we can succeed.”
ESET, who are also official partners of the Community Sports Trust and the AFC Bournemouth women’s team, are now in their fourth year of supporting the club.
ESET Brand and Partnership Manager Lina Radwanski said: “We absolutely love working with the team at AFC Bournemouth.
"Over the past few years, our partnership has gone from strength to strength – from working with the Community Sports Trust on the Safer Kids Online initiative in schools and most recently our involvement with girls’ and women’s teams.
"There is a real buzz and sense of community at AFC Business events and it’s a great opportunity to meet local businesses in person – we’re extremely proud to be part of it!"
AFC Bournemouth would like to extend its thanks to AFC Business partners Dorset Chamber, ESET UK, Goadsby, Hill Osborne, IFX Payments, Strategic Solutions, Stormbreak, Tru Talent and Village Hotels.
