Cook and Fletcher back Healthy Lifestyles campaign

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth joined forces with MSP Capital to celebrate the successful Healthy Lifestyles campaign.

The workshops, which are supported by the club’s official training wear partner MSP Capital, have been delivered across 57 sessions to nearly 4,000 children.

Lewis Cook and Steve Fletcher visited Epiphany School, alongside MSP’s Chris Wright and Rachel Bartlett. Cook and Fletcher got involved in the session, taking part in a Q&A session as well as helping the children with the lesson.

The session involved a discussion on the benefits of a balanced diet, regular exercise, a good night’s sleep and maintaining hydration levels.

Using the Eatwell Plate pictorial summary of the main food groups, the children learned about nutrients, minerals, vitamins and recommended proportions of food.

They completed workshop tasks such as designing healthy meals for AFC Bournemouth players, linking to the different times of a match day.

Steve Cuss, head of community at AFC Bournemouth, said: “The healthy lifestyles project is really important and is now embedded in the school work that we deliver.

“In partnership with MSP, we’re able to go out and work in lots of different schools and deliver the workshop, which touches upon a number of different aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

“Having a Premier League footballer here, like Lewis Cook, allows us to ask questions about how he looks after himself off the field, even areas like sleep and relaxation, so it was really beneficial for the kids.”

Meanwhile, Cook and Fletcher also showed their support at MSP Capital’s offices, as they helped run a fitness session for staff.

AFC Bournemouth’s head of performance Alastair Harris led the session alongside first team sports scientist Rob Lloyd, with five members of staff being put through their paces in a session which replicated the work that the first-team players do.

Rachel Bartlett, marketing manager at MSP Capital, commented: “It’s fantastic for MSP to be involved in the healthy lifestyles campaign. We’re big advocates for putting your mental and physical health first.

“Not only did we get the opportunity to join the school visit and see the impact there, we welcomed AFC Bournemouth’s trainers and Lewis Cook came down to the office gym and really put the MSP team for their paces.

“It’s been a fantastic day and it was great to get the team involved in the campaign.”

Cook added: “They’ve got a great gym here so we were able to provide an insight of what our week is like in order to prepare the lads and I for a game on the weekend. They’ve been really good and they looked like they enjoyed it!

“They had some very strong people! They were great people, first and foremost, and we’ve had a great time with lots of laughs, which is what it’s all about to be honest. When you have those chances to do these sessions during the week, it’s enjoyable."
